Dog Sledding Locations

To most people it is fairly obvious that the best dog sledding environments are ones with plenty of that white fluffy snow that everyone loves and vast expanses of open terrain.  There are many different locations out there that have these ideal characteristics for dog sledding but they are far from identical. If you talk to any seasoned veteran of traveling with a dog sled team they will tell you that there are certain locations that are better than others. If you already live in an area that has snow a majority of the year and has plenty of open space for sledding chances are you won’t have to go far to find the perfect dog sledding locations but just like taking a road trip through America sometimes you just have to cut lose to see what else is out there.
Northern Alaska is a hot spot for many seeking to go on a new sledding adventure because it stays covered in snow for much of the year and has beautiful scenery and friendly locals that are always willing to lend a helping hand. When you are planning your next dog sledding outing you should remember that it may be tempting to strike out on your own away from the beat path but doing so could end up getting you and your dog sled team in trouble, especially if it is a new location you are unfamiliar with. When planning a journey in any area that is new to you it would be a good idea to plan your route ahead of time and try to make sure that you are always within a few miles walk of help in case you have an emergency. While this may not be possible in many of the less populated areas up north you can still talk to local guides to see which routes they suggest.
